Harun al-Rashid, Ivan the Terrible, and Jack the Ripper: With the help of new stories, the owner of a panopticon wants to increase the attraction value of his chamber of horrors. A young poet is inspired by the wax figures of historical figures as well as by the beautiful daughter of the showman and he imagines three - sometimes hair-raising, sometimes burlesque - episodes (with characters that are very stereotypical from today's perspective). Director, stage, and set designer Paul Leni provides spectacular settings for the dramatic stories and dresses the three main actors Emil Jannings, Conrad Veidt and Werner Krauß in fantastic costumes. A true fairground play! (mg)
